Wickered Words (Genesis 3:3-6)

But Satan explained what he really meant

and what he should have said to be clear.

And Eve said, "Well Okay then."

And she took a big bite from the fruit.

And smiling, she handed it to Adam

standing beside her and explained,

"I told you it was good!" And they both ate.

And it is as with the Pledge of Allegiance;

while we try to identify the source of our present despair

we bow more deeply before the idol

knowing wrongly that it is the true source of our former strength.

Genesis 3:3-6 (KJV) But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. {4} And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: {5} For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. {6} And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

Exodus 34:14 (KJV) For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

Isaiah 2:8-9 (KJV) Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made: {9} And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not.
